For the past fifteen years Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara has been a major political influence in Das, T/Balewa and Bogoro federal constituency and Bauchi State as a whole. Despite being a Christian from southern Bauchi State, Dogara has through exemplary leadership capacity, enjoyed a great deal of success and popularity throughout his political career.

Dogara has been consistent in bringing the dividend of democracy to his constituents through the construction of roads/Bridges, Dams for Irrigation, Markets, Schools, Health Facilities-well-a Youth Employment and Empowerment, Many of these developments he has often extended State-wide and Nation-wide, but few examples is the Payment of WAEC, NECO and JAMB for Edo IDPs in 2018and treatment of 10,000 Bauchi residents in 2019. Dogara is a unifying force in his constituency and state, bringing sustainable peace and progress through inclusive governance.
Coming from the rural community where Nigeria’s first and only Prime Minister came from, Dogara rose to such great heights once again when he became the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives and the 4th citizen of the country in 2015, making him the first Speaker from north-East Nigeria and one of the two Christian Politicians from North to rise to top four of the country’s executive order.
During his 4 years as speaker, over 300 Bills were passed which is more than all previous assemblies bills, over a thousand motions and a thousand public petitions were also considered, needless to forget he sponsored the bill for the creation of the North-East Development Commission among others.
Dogara had numerous awards in addition to his conferment with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Law and Installation as the Chancellor of Achievers University Ondo State. Being a Pro-People leader, Even his worse critics would admit his Leadership Capacity, Humility, Responsibility, Courage and Integrity.
Dogara had become so influential in Bauchi State that Governorship aspirants who aligned with him won elections and sitting Governors who fought against him lost re-elections .
A notable example is his role in installing the current Governor of Bauchi State which gave him the popular title “Goje Uban Kaura”, Dogara has never lost an election in his constituency even against the efforts of sitting governors, and after his fourth tenure,e he decided not to re-contest his position as member representing Das, T/Balewa and Bogoro federal constituency. Most likely because he is now a principal component of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s 2023 APC Presidential Campaign.
After the just concluded APC Presidential Primaries, With Tinubu as the party’s flag bearer, debates are ignited on Twitter and questions asked as to which of the Christian candidates from the North is popular enough to attract votes for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu if given the VP slot, too balance the region and religion diversities of the country. Among the few names that keep coming up, I stand bold to say that Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara is more Popular Has more experience in active politics and national leadership, have a wider political structure and network and have already proven to be a suitable working companion for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as shown by their close relationship in the party mobilisation and campaign.
Therefore; I am appealing to APC Party stakeholders, Northern Governors, Elites and all concerned Nigerians to give utmost consideration to the man who will bring Unity and Progress to the good people of Northern Nigeria and the Nation at large. And that man is no other person but Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Former Speaker of the 8th Assembly.
